My work:

In my job I work both as a scientist in the lab and in developing business. I meet people working in companies and help them produce new chemicals. I work with many companies from those producing aircraft fuel to shampoo!


About me:

Country of Origin: Spain


My name is Juan Maria and was born in Spain almost 40 years ago. I attended Primary and Secondary School in my hometown, called Badajoz. When I finished my education at the University also there, I move to Madrid to continue with a PhD in Chemistry. Once finished, I came to St Andrews, Scotland to work. I’ve been a Scientist most of my career and interested on working in projects related to sustainability and circular economy. We need to take care of our planet!

I’ve been here for a few years now and I am really enjoying growing a family here. Such a beautiful country! I have two kids, aged 5 and 8 and what I like most is to travel with them and my wife around the country and discover new places, specially during Spring and Summer time. We particularly enjoy countryside walking and look constantly for new places to go and spend time in contact with nature. Going to wildlife centers is our favorite activity to do!


Education:

  • After my Primary and Secondary Schooling, I got a Chemical Engineering degree from a university. After this, I got a PhD in Chemistry.

My favourite subject in school:

Science


My hobbies:

Reading crime or police books, gym and countryside walking
